i admit it. i have Olympic fever. watching the opening ceremony was eye catching to say the least. it's impressive that most of the acts were done *man-ually.* i'm not usually as pumped about watching olympics and especially the opening ceremonies but i think since it's in beijing and because of the earthquake - i found myself drawn.

a few thoughts.

my favorite acts of the ceremony were the parts where there are a shit load of people doing various things. the beginning part where there were 2008 drummers and the sticks turned into red glow sticks when they turned the lights out; it was especially impressive. and the part where there were cubes that were supposed to represent printing blocks. initially i didn't think much of it, but think about how hard it would be to coordinate such a complex routine with so many people. then i started thinking about how that shit would never be possible in the states because you have many many different personalities with many different motives. it just wouldn't happen. that's the reason why it's impressive - because in china - it truly is about the masses for a single purpose. the people are cohesive. the ceremony was very impressive and canada is screwed in '10.

china men's basketball is all hype. they got their asses romped by the redeem team which was expected, but it was just embarrassing in the second half. it looked like kids playing with men.

i'm not interested in watching the mainstream sports. i've been following the schedules online and trying to record some badminton or table tennis matches but the problem is that they lump a bunch of sports into a 4-5 hour period and my tivo has about 30 hours of coverage already. i found a better way at msnbc. check it out. the streaming quality is actually quite good.

president bush talking with bob costas. i saw it tonite. it was a 5 minute segment in between some events. i was surprised that it was so casual and not advertised. he still does not "sound" like a president to me.

the chinese women's gymnasts do *not* look like they're 16. maybe 12 at most.

it's weird to see chinese women (from china) in bikini's playing beach volleyball.
